Go to your MP3 player/iPod/or other music device/program and put it on shuffle. Skip thru 10 songs, and the next one you land on....tell us what it is, and something about that song. No cheating!
The song I came up with was:
Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers - I've always been a big Gabriel fan from his Genesis days, and this song is from his THIRD self-titled album. Still probably my three favorite Gabriel albums. The message holds up today, and the lyrics are rather clever. You can see the video for it here.
So pick a song and tell us about it.

Come Together by The Beatles
Probably the most complicated drumbeat Ringo Starr ever played haha.
Hmm... I got Mother's Pride by George Michael, from his Listen Without Prejudice, Vol 1 album. This was the first and only George Michael album I owned (back on cassette tape), and listened to it incessantly for a few months. It particularly fit in with the beginning of the First Gulf War (which began shortly after the album's release), and I remember hoping and praying that I wouldn't have to go to war, myself.
Poughkeepsie by Over the Rhine -- This is from the indie release of "Good Dog Bad Dog." It's not my favorite song from the album, but it does showcase Karen Bergquist's fabulous voice.
Headlights Look Like Diamonds by The Arcade Fire
This is off of their EP. This song kind of skeeves me out, and I'm not sure why. The lyrics are kind of cool though.
If I Should Fall Behind, Bruce Springsteen, In Concert: MTV Plugged
Not one of Springsteen's better-known songs, either popularly or to me personally. I like it for being a realistic love song. Rather than the typical "we'll never let go of each other" or "nothing can separate us," he sings:
"Now everyone dreams of a love | lasting and true | But you and I know what this world can do | So let's make our steps clear that the other may see | And I'll wait for you | If I should fall behind | Wait for me."
Smashing Pumpkins - "Mayonaise"
I never really paid much attention to this song, UNTIL my friend, Doug, recorded a solo acoustic cover of this song. It completely brought it to light for me. See Doug has a much nicer singing voice than Billy Corgan and Mayonaise became this absolutely gorgeous song. But there is something great about the shoegaze aspects to the original mix off of Siamese Dream. Ultimately, this 1993 album is fantastic.
Flaming Lips - She Don't Use Jelly
One of my favorite songs since I was 13 years old... back in the days of flannel shirts, converse sneakers and My So-Called Life. I think this is one of the songs I included on my first-ever mix tape.
You Don't Know Me - B.B. King & Diane Schuur.
DS's smooth jazzy voice mixed with B.B.'s is just perfection. It's romantic and sweet...love this tune!
I came up with Pearl Jam's "Whipping" from the 7/23/2006 Gorge Box Set.
I wasn't at that specific show...but this song rocks live. I have never experienced anything else in my life like seeing Eddie Vedder swinging his microphone around and Mike McCready playing his guitar behind his head. This song brings back some great memories, and hopefully more to come in 2009.
Virginia Plain by Roxy Music - a song from my second favorite movie ever, Velvet Goldmine. Gotta love Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor & Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing sexually ambiguous glam rockers in the seventies!
"Let It Slide" by Keane from Under the Iron Sea. Well, that was disappointing. This follow-up album to Hopes and Fears has some strong points but this isn't one of them. I haven't listened to enough of their new one, Perfect Symmetry, to form a judgment yet.
Gawd, my collection is eclectic....
Jeepster by T Rex from Electric Warrior (1971)
